The first simulated altitude chambers used to enhance athletic performance appeared in East Germany and the former Soviet Union in the late seventies at secret training locations.

Very few training techniques have had as much study and support as altitude training. Time and time again, studies have proven that the altitude effect is real and significant. These studies have shown significant improvements in performance in both fit and unfit individuals.

The positive performance changes come from both improved oxygen carrying capacity of the blood, and improved function of the muscle at the cellular level.
